The Acting Secretary of health and human services secretariat HHSS Dr. Mohammed Kawu has commended the FCT Health Insurance Scheme FHIS, for its efforts towards introducing the latest technology in providing Social Health Insurance Scheme to FCT residents.

Dr. Kawu made the commendation at the demonstration exercise of a technology application called Smart Healthcare System organised by the FCT Health Insurance scheme in conjunction with Guaranty Trust Bank at the Maitama District Hospital.

Dr. Kawu who was represented during the exercise by the Deputy Director in charge of Health Financing, HHSS Dr. Salihu Mohammed said the only way to meet the deadline of the Universal Health Coverage is through Social Health Insurance “if we as the Federal Capital Territory Administration are to achieve the sustainable development goals of universal health coverage, then the right step to go, is to empower our FCT Health Insurance Scheme FHIS to reduce out of pocket spending by patients.

Smart Healthcare system is an application that allows your hospital card to also serve as an ATM card as well as link all hospitals that uses the system in any part of the world

The deputy Director Health Finance Dr. Salihu Mohammed promised to convey the outcome of the exercise with a view to convincing the FCT administration to adopt the Smart Health care platform for all hospitals.

In a remark, the Director FCT Health Insurance Scheme Dr. M. Ahmed-Danfulani said the FHIS mandate is to ensure that all FCT residents have access to quality and affordable healthcare, therefore it is the responsibility of FHIS to develop mechanisms that will ensure they fulfil their mandate effectively.

“Towards achieving our mandate as FCT Health Insurance scheme it is our responsibility to bring innovative ways to encourage more and efficient enrollment.”

Also speaking, the medical director Maitama District Hospital Dr. Suleiman Ahmed said Maitama hospital is the first hospital to adopt the electronic medical records system, and will also welcome the new development once it is approved.

The senior manager Guaranty Trust Bank Saminu Bulama while introducing the system said they want to help in applying technology to all platforms who are willing to digitize their platforms, he added that GTB is partnering with Electronic payplus the platform that will provide hybrid cards for the smart healthcare system which have already enrolled many hospitals within the country.
